Description:

As the Sabbath day draws to a close a crowd gathers outside the house where Jesus, His disciples and friends have been enjoying a dinner given in His honor. Mary has just broken an outrageously expensive bottle of pungent perfume and anointed Jesus' feet with the ointment. The beautiful scent of pure nard permeates the house and we assume wafts out into the street where the crowd is surrounded by its fragrance. Reflecting a growing lunacy, the chief priests resolve to kill Lazarus in order to "destroy the evidence" of Jesus' power, and put an end to what they fear most-- the Truth. The next day Jesus makes His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, much to the consternation of the Pharisees who fear the "whole world" will believe in Him. Ironically and perhaps prophetically, a segment of that world (a group of Greeks) arrives at the opportune time, desiring to see Jesus. We will take a very figurative look at the events of this section of John's Gospel and particularly how from this point on in history the Gospel will spread through the world just as Mary's perfume spread through the house. Satan and his mignons will do everything in their power to stop it, so we will consider ways to foil his nefarious but predictable strategy. But in the end, the Holy Spirit working through a literal army of believers, will ensure that nothing in heaven or earth will block, dilute or dissipate the inspired fragrance of the Gospel.
